for the annotating anon, i always hate having to do it too but in my experience it's mostly a) proof you did the reading for the teacher and b) to help you out like if you had to write a paper on it after. so in addition to what you said, underlining or highlighting a part if it feels like important, or reminds you of another part of the book, or seems like foreshadowing, or echoes a theme or anything like that, you could just mark and then just write like what it made you think of next to it. idk if that helps but that's what i've tried to do in the past
^ and if ur up for it u can make a legend where each color highlighter is smth specific (yellow = theme, etc etc etc) just don’t go crazy and overwhelm urself keep it to 2 or 3. i never feel up for it i just underline stuff in red pen lol
