hello! i was scrolling through your blog to find that one post with poem recommendations and i saw two or so asks that recommended you literature from their countries and i wanted to do it too, since you seem to love reading and i'd love to give you an opportunity to read some good books you might have never heard of otherwise.

my personal favourite is "migrations" by miloš crnjanski. i know it's been translated into english but i don't know how well, but it's very poetic and its depictions of war are some of the best i've ever come across (there's a famous scene about a mass execution in a church that's written mostly in dialogue but with no dialogue tags and almost no named characters - it's an amazing representation of a chaotic and anxiety inducing atmosphere.)

i also wholeheartedly recommended anything written by ivo andrić. the main theme in his works are usually bridges in serbia which might sound a bit boring, but he writes about them in a way that treats them like characters, usually showing you the history and overall feel of the town through their descriptions. it's incredibly captivating.

đura jakšić's poetry is also beautiful (and i think it can easily be found online), but since this is already too long of an ask, i'm not gonna talk in depth about it. sorry if this ask was annoying or anything, don't feel obligated to reply to it. have a nice day! :)

  • thank u i’ll put them on my list to check out <3
