i watched the mit video, and that race analogy the one guy made? he so obviously has a fundamental misunderstanding of how systemic racism affects minorities. i wish i could shake him and tell him that minorities aren’t “crippled” (already using language that is insensitive to a different type of minority), they’re able-bodied but have to run in a lane full of hurdles and pot holes!! it’s not that hard to understand. and everyone just let him say it!! that’s so embarrassing for them. i’m white and i know you don’t need my sympathy, but you have it. if i’m this annoyed, i can only imagine how frustrating this is for you. if you have a specific grievance with white people on your mind rn please use this as an excuse to share it. i always appreciate when you share your perspective on here. it helps me expand my worldview in way that’s sometimes more palpable than stats and literature.

  • I appreciate you reading and approaching it with a willingness to listen. it’s so powerful to hear black students speak about the anguish they experience just existing and having to say “I cannot live for myself” and I wish the white students in that other video would allow themselves to fully hear that message without immediately jumping to defend themselves or act as if they’re under attack. it’s exhausting getting up everyday going to class or to work knowing that you are surrounded by people who both hold themselves above you and resent you simply for trying to advance in life.
